Students at MJDS are taught appropriate computer rules for working on and off the Internet. We teach responsible behavior when students work online at MJDS. Copyright laws, sharing of ideas and graphics is addressed in every class that uses computer technology. Here are some suggestions to ensure that your child is as safe as possible when working at home on the computer:
- Become computer literate
- Get a home web filter, install it correctly and monitor it
- Keep computers in a common area of your home, not in individual bedrooms
- Monitor your child’s email account (contact bhonigman@mjds.org for school password information)
- Bookmark your child’s favorite sites for easy access
- Address the issue of private chat rooms and talk about how dangerous they can be
- Find out if friends’ computers or after school programs use web filters
There is no perfect web filter for your child. Get involved in your child’s online activities!
