About MJDS Library Services

What are the library’s hours? Where is it?
The library is located on the second floor of the Kohl building, 6401 N. Santa Monica Blvd. During the 2009-2010 school year our hours are as follows: Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m.; regular schedule Fridays, 7:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m.; and early dismissal Fridays, 7:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m.


How many books can be checked out at a time?
Students in senior kindergarten can check out one book at a time. Students in grades one through five can check out two books at a time. Middle school students can check out three. Extra books are allowed for specific projects or reports. Students who have overdue books have limited check-out privileges.

Do you charge overdue fines?
No. However, students are charged replacement cost for damaged or lost materials. Check-out privileges will be limited or suspended for students with overdue books.

How often do students visit the library?
Students in senior kindergarten through fourth grade have scheduled library lesson and check-out times every week. Students in fifth grade have scheduled library sessions every other week. Students are always welcome to visit the library before or after school or during hafsakah, chugim or study hall times.

Who are the library staff members?
Our library staff consists of Gev. Beth Meister, Library Media Specialist, and Gev. Cheryl Siegel-Gajewski, Assistant Librarian. 
 
What is the mission of the library?
Our mission is to support students, staff, and school community by providing a range of quality resources and appropriate educational opportunities.

What kinds of technology are available in the library?
The library has four staff and five student computer stations, and houses a mobile computer lab, with twenty-two laptops. We also have a SMARTBoard computer projection area for group instruction.  

Does the library have a policy on donations?
The library is happy to accept donations of books or videos. Materials that are in excellent condition and meet our selection policy may be placed in our library collection. Materials that are not used in the library will be offered to our staff for classroom libraries or donated to charity.
