Physical Education

The overall goal of the MJDS physical education program is the development of skills, knowledge, and confidence which allow for regular participation in physical activities that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Students are exposed to a variety of activities which emphasize team skills, endurance, individual skills and complete participation by all students, regardless of experience. Students are encouraged to listen, work hard and allow others to do the same. Competitive situations are used to help students understand and appreciate teamwork and good sportsmanship as a way to help children handle competition while showing respect for others.

In addition to a curriculum that exceeds state standards, children in third and fourth grade receive swimming lessons at the Harry and Rose Samson Jewish Community Center. Taught by Red Cross-certified instructors, these lessons enhance existing swimming skills for some students and serve as an introduction to swimming and water safety for those who don’t already know how to swim.
