The art room at MJDS is a creative environment for children which offers exploration of different media and materials. Students develop skills to express themselves through these media and learn how artists and cultures in the past have used these means to express themselves. 

In addition to studio work in the classroom, students take field trips to artists’ studios and to local art galleries as well as the Milwaukee Art Museum. Children in third through fifth grade take part in the Milwaukee Art Musuem’s Junior Docent Program which culminates in a special “graduation ceremony” where students present a short talk on the artist/artwork of their choice for parents and friends. Every other year, a large showing of the children’s artwork is displayed in the “MJDS Art Show”.
