First Grade

Students visit the computer lab once each week. They have two workstations in their classrooms to reinforce skills they learn in their computer class in the lab. At the beginning of the year students review lab etiquette, parts of the computer, logging on to the system and opening and closing applications. They use KidPix software to create projects that relate to their classroom curriculum. Students learn to manipulate fonts, format pages, insert clipart and word art in Microsoft Word. Math Colors, an application that teaches the four color map theorem is introduced to teach students to think creatively and spatially. Additionally, web sites are visited that include telling time practice, Jewish holidays, math practice, and games that reinforce higher order thinking skills.
