Holidays and Commemorations

Jewish holiday instruction at MJDS teaches children about how chagim (holidays) are observed. We have a spiraled holiday and commemorations curriculum so that children add to their knowledge base each year. The students explore and experience the holidays and see how they bring meaning and value to their lives. MJDS prepares children to celebrate Jewish holidays at home and in the synagogue, and we help our students respect the practices of their classmates.

In addition to Jewish holidays, MJDS students commemorate events on our Jewish calendar that we must not forget. These include Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), Yom Hazikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day) and the yahrzeit of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin, z”l. These events are observed in a sensitive, age-appropriate manner.
