Israel

A connection to and a love for the State of Israel is an integral part of MJDS. Celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day) is an exciting time at our school. We are fortunate to have a representative (shin shin) from Israel who volunteers at school to help foster this connection. This program brings post-high school-aged teenagers to devote a year of service to the Jewish community before beginning their formal military service in Israel. They share their culture with the students at every grade level.

Milwaukee is one of only a handful of cities involved in Partnership 2000, an enriching relationship with a community in Israel. This enables our school to take part in the many wonderful opportunities throughout our community (i.e., guest speakers, Israeli musicians, visits from Israeli Scouts, and partnership projects with Israeli schools). Our students video conference and engage in activities with students from these schools throughout the year.

Students learn Israeli dance, participate in the Walk for Israel and collect donations to plant trees in Israel. As a culminating educational, religious and cultural experience, MJDS 8th graders and staff chaperones travel to Israel each year.
