MJDS follows Wisconsin's Childhood Communicable Disease guidance.
Please keep your student(s) home when they exhibit:
- Fever: must stay home 24 hours fever-free (temp less than 100.4) without the use of fever-reducing medications.
- Diarrhea: must be asymptomatic for 24 hours (note: during times of high GI illness or if norovirus is suspected MJDS will enforce a 48 hours policy).
- Vomiting: must be asymptomatic for 24 hours.
- New rash with fever or a concerning rash: cannot return until evaluated by medical provider and no fever for 24 hours.
- Skin sores that are draining fluid: cannot return until evaluated by medical provider. Sores must be covered with a bandage or sores must be crusted and dry to return.
- Respiratory virus symptoms: students should stay home and be evaluated by a medical provider if they have a cough that interferes with the child’s ability to fully participate in classroom activities; symptoms are worsening or not improving; changes in skin color or appearance; or the child is experiencing trouble breathing, wheezing, or retractions. Consider additional actions to protect other students and staff when returning such as masking and social distancing.
Students can return after 24 hours on antibiotics for a variety of bacterial causes. Contact the school nurse for specifics. Students may be sent home for known or suspected cases of communicable disease. Notify school immediately if your child contracts a contagious disease/condition (such as chicken pox, pertussis, strep, or impetigo).
