Have you heard of Giving Tuesday (#GivingTuesday)?
Giving Tuesday refers to the Tuesday after U.S. Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a movement to create an international day of giving. Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y in New York and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season (Black Friday and Cyber Monday).
Giving Tuesday has grown in six years from a few states participating to an international day to encourage people to make a gift of time, treasure or talent to the nonprofit of their choice.
This year #GivingTuesday is on November 27 and MJDS is excited to participate with a #GivingTuesday online mini-campaign to spread awareness of our school and the values MJDS students learn and practice, such as tikkun olam (repairing the world).
Participation is simple.
Use the MJDS #UNselfie template (download here!) and write down a good deed done to support the movement.
Maybe you and your MJDS student cleaned out a closet to donate to a local shelter, or you supported the MJDS Annual Fund; no deed is too small for the #UNselfish movement!
Take a selfie with your good deed written down and post to social media using #GivingTuesday, #UNselfie and #ilovemjds hashtags.
Need a little help with the social media post? See sample messages below! Remember to use your #UNselfie picture with your post.
