Arts (Omanut)

At MJDS every student is an artist

Art Program for Early Childhood and Lower School

EC and LS students dive into a world of creativity in art classes once a week. Throughout the year they will explore a colorful mix of materials including paint, pencils, clay, collage, pastels and printmaking! Whether they're swirling paint on paper or shaping their imaginations in clay, students are encouraged to express themselves freely while playfully discovering the elements of art and the joy of making.

Milwaukee Art Museum Junior Docent Program

At MJDS, students in third, fourth and fifth grades participate in an exciting collaboration with the Milwaukee Art Museum through the Junior Docent Program. Over the course of three years, students take multiple field trips to the museum with each visit focusing on a new theme or aspect of art appreciation. In fifth grade, students select a work of art from the museum's collection to research, write about and creatively recreate. Their journey culminates in a special final presentation and graduation ceremony where they are honored as official Junior Docents.
